ESPN's Jayson Stark reports the Astros have inquired about Phillies outfielder/third baseman John Mayberry Jr. although he also adds it is an unlikely fit. Mayberry signed a one-year deal worth $1.587 million in January.
Last year, Mayberry hit .227/.286/.391 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs in 353 at-bats. The 30-year-old has topped 11 home runs in each of the last three seasons despite having no more than 441 at-bats over that span. In parts of five seasons with the Phillies, Mayberry is batting .245/.304/.430 with 46 home runs and 148 RBIs.
The Phillies acquired Mayberry from the Texas Rangers in November 2008 for former-first round pick Greg Golson.
