Pro Football Talk reports DeMeco Ryans suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the victory over the Houston Texans. CSN Philly's Derrick Gunn confirmed it is the same Achilles tendon Ryans tore in 2010 while a member of the Texans.
Ryans, 30, has been a leader on the defensive side of the ball for the Eagles. The entire team came out in support of Ryans as he was carted off the field. Head coach Chip Kelly spoke highly of Ryans following the game.
"He's our Mufasa," Kelly said referring to The Lion King. "When a warrior goes down, you pick up a shield and play in honor of him."
Ryans recorded 45 tackles on the season and picked up his first interception of the year on the play he tore his Achilles. Casey Matthews is expected to start at inside linebacker in place of Ryans.
