If the name sounds familiar, it should. Davis interviewed with the Eagles the week before the Super Bowl. He spent the last two seasons as the Cleveland Browns linebackers coach. Davis has previous defensive coordinator experience as he was Mike Nolan’s defensive coordinator in San Francisco in 2005-06 and then took over the Cardinals defense in 2009-10. The 47 year old coach has ties to the Eagles as well. His father was a linebackers coach under Dick Vermeil and was vice president of player personnel when Buddy Ryan was coaching in Philadelphia. Davis was actually an Eagles ball boy growing up.
The scheme that Davis is known for is the 3-4. In one of the worst kept secrets of the off season, the Eagles have been looking to switch from the 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme. That will require some overhauls on defense but one player is expected to be a force in the 3-4 scheme is defensive lineman Fletcher Cox. Davis does have some weapons on defense to work with.
