CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher reports the Eagles are interested in free agent safety Mike Mitchell, who previously played for the Carolina Panthers. Mitchell would likely step into a starting role with the Eagles after starting for the second-ranked Panthers defense last season.
Mitchell, who turns 27 in June, had a strong year last season for the Panthers with four interceptions, 3.5 sacks and 66 total tackles. The 6'1", 213 lbs. safety was the 47th overall pick in 2009 by the Oakland Raiders but struggled out west. He isn't flawless as he missed an NFL-high 18 tackles last season per Pro Football Focus. With the Eagles struggles in wrapping up defenders over the past few seasons, this is a concern.
Despite his inability to tackle consistently, he is still a major upgrade over the current safeties on the Eagles roster.
