Former Eagles quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski went on 97.5 The Fanatic with Mike Missanelli yesterday to talk about the Eagles and their vacant head coaching position. Jaworski said that Jon Gruden has had meetings but is not interested in certain jobs. Missanelli pushed Jaworski further to find out if the Eagles were one of the jobs that Gruden was not interested in and Jaworski denied that Gruden was not interested in the Eagles.
So if Gruden is interested, even if it just a little bit, in the Eagles, will the Eagles reach out to the former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach? It appears to be a resounding “no.” CSNPhilly’s Derrick Gunn was on WIP’s Morning Show this morning and said, unequivocally, that the Eagles are looking in a different direction than Jon Gruden.
Jordan Raanan of NJ.com took it a step further this morning pointing out that not only are the Eagles not interested, they would also have easy access to Gruden if they were interested.
“The feeling isn't being reciprocated. The Eagles have expressed no interest in Jon Gruden, and it's not like they would have trouble finding the outspoken ex-head coach's number.”
The thing I take from all of this is that Gruden is going to pick the best place for him if he is going to leave his cushy ESPN job on Monday Night Football. Gruden will not just take any head coaching position. That being said, it appears that Gruden would welcome the idea of coaching the Eagles if given the opportunity to interview for the position but the Eagles are clearly not interested. Those who want Gruden to lead the Eagles should probably start picking a different candidate to avoid disappointment barring anything unforeseen.
