Talks between the Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons about Pro Bowl CB Asante Samuel are heating up. According to ESPN, the Falcons are on the verge of acquiring Samuel for a late round pick. The Eagles have not been quiet in their attempt to rid themselves of the polarizing Samuel given the additions last summer of Pro Bowl CBs Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Samuel’s Cover 2 style and lack of tackling ability has made Samuel the odd man out in the Eagles secondary despite his ball hawking ability. The 31 year old corner had 3 interceptions in 14 games last year which is down from his 7 INT total in 11 games in 2010 and his 9 INT season in 16 games in 2009.
The late round pick compensation seems a little light for an impact player like Samuel but the Eagles have no leverage anymore as they have been rather open about trading Samuel.
