CSN Philly reports that the Flyers, along with the Bruins, are finalists to play the Washington Capitals in the 2015 Winter Classic. The game is expected to be played at Nationals Park in downtown D.C. or FedEx Field in Landover, Md. This comes on the heels of a report that that Flyers had not heard from the league regarding a spot in the 2015 game.
The Flyers played in the 2010 Winter Classic in Boston against the Bruins and hosted the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park against the Rangers. Both the Flyers (2012) and Capitals (2011) were featured once on HBO's hit series 24/7: Road to the Winter Classic.
I think Boston has the inside edge to play the Capitals because they have only been featured in the game once (compared to the Flyers' two appearances). Either way, the league is considering a big hockey market for the game.
