The Philadelphia Daily News' Frank Seravalli reports that the Flyers have fired head coach Peter Laviolette and assistant Craig Berube will take over the team for their game Tuesday vs. Florida. The Flyers have announced an ambiguous 11:00 am press conference.
Over the weekend there were reports that Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette was on the hot seat and that there was "a sense of impending doom for some around the organization and without a doubt Laviolette is in trouble." This coming just days after Laviolette was given 2/1 odds of being the first head coach fired.
Laviolette, 48, has had success in Philadelphia winning 47 games and topping 103 points in each of the last two full 82-game seasons. Overall with the Flyers he was 145-97-29 in 271 games since taking over for John Stevens in December 2009. He led the Flyers to an Eastern Conference Championship and trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010.
I loved Laviolette and I want to see him succeed in Philadelphia but his 0-3-0 start had many wondering if it were a matter of time. It appears that time is up.
