No one has the answers to any of these questions but Holmgren might be hedging his bets. According to reports out of Canada, the Flyers are interested in Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo . Flyers beat writer Frank Seravalli got a comment from Holmgren on the rumors,
“That made me chuckle. Safe to say they aren't true. They have no basis or merit.”
He might be saying one thing but others believe he is doing another. TSN’s James Duthie reported on Twitter after Holmgren’s comments that the rumors do have merit.
“Despite some denials, the tweet earlier from @EnricoCiccone is accurate. The Flyers are interested in Roberto Luongo.”
Luongo is slated to make $47.3 million over the next 10 years while Bryzgalov only has seven years and $41 million remaining on his contract. Maybe this will light a fire under Ilya Bryzgalov and he will play more focused? Who knows. Maybe this isn’t anything at all but it certainly has many people paying attention to the Flyers front office again. It looks like they picked up after the lockout where they left it in the summer.
