The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi reports that general manager Paul Holmgren is "kicking the tires" on inviting Gagne to Flyers training camp. The team cannot sign Gagne because they are already over the salary cap but might be interested in bringing him back.
The price has to be right for Gagne to return because the Flyers do not have a ton of cap room. The 33 year old was reacquired this year after playing in Philadelphia from 1999-2010. He scored five goals and added six assists in 27 games. He carried a $3.5 million cap hit last season.
He is not a top line winger anymore but he added quality minutes for the Flyers on the third line last year. As a fan, I would love to have Gagne back but it will be interesting to see if Gagne accepts an invitation or holds out for something more substantial.
