The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi reports that the Flyers might be leaning towards starting Emery in the season-opener against the Maple Leafs next Wednesday. The Flyers wrap up their preseason tonight against the Washington Capitals.
Emery signed a one-year, $1.65 million contract to return to the Flyers, the team in which he played 28 games for in 2009-10. Last year with the Blackhawks, he was 17-1-0 with a 1.94 GAA and a .922 SV%. In Chicago he split time with Corey Crawford and, obviously, played well in that role. In fact, Emery even earned himself a Vezina (top goaltender) vote for his play.
Emery was 16-11-1 in 28 games with a 2.64 GAA and a .905 SV% with the Flyers in 2009-10. The Flyers let him walk after they thought he career was over after a labrum issue in his hip. In seven games (six starts) for the Flyers last year, Mason was 4-2-0 with a 1.90 GAA and a .944 SV%.
