Hextall had a good deal in Los Angeles so why would he come back to the Flyers? CSN Philly cites Hextall as saying it was a "gut feeling" to come back to Philadelphia and nothing more tangible than that. It might be a beneficial career decision as well as a league source told CSN that Hextall is now the "GM in waiting" in Philadelphia behind Paul Holmgren.
The 49 year old Hextall spent the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings as Assistant General Manager and Vice President of the team. He won a Stanley Cup ring with the Kings in 2012. Prior to joining Los Angeles, Hextall worked for the Flyers front office. First he was a scout after his retirement in 1999 and was Director of Pro Hockey Personnel from 2002-06.
He played in 608 NHL (489 with the Flyers) compiling a 296-214-69 record with a 2.97 GAA and a .895 save percentage. He was 240-172-58 with a 2.91 GAA with the Flyers. He is No. 1 all-time in Flyers history in games played by a goaltender and wins. Hextall also holds the franchise record for most playoff wins as he was 45-36 with a 2.95 GAA in the playoffs.
