The Delco Daily Times' Dennis Deitch reports that sources say Matt Stairs and Jamie Moyer will join the Phillies television broadcast team and it is a "done deal." The Phillies nor Comcast Sportsnet have confirmed the report.
His moonshot in the 2008 NLCS still gives me chills and Matt Stairs, as he put it, never had to pay for beer again in Philadelphia. And rightly so. Well, the legend of Matt Stairs grew three sizes two weeks ago as the former-Phillies slugger appeared at the Wing Bowl and his entrance was of epic proportions. He came out to Stone Cold Steve Austin's entrance music and then crushed two beers while wearing his Phillies jersey.
Stairs played parts of two season with the Phillies in 2008 and 2009.
Moyer, 51, pitched for the Phillies from 2006-2010 including leading the Phillies in wins in 2008 going 16-7 with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. In parts of five seasons in Philadelphia, Moyer went 56-40 with a 4.55 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. The lefty is a local product who pitched at Souderton High School and at Saint Joseph's University.
I like the decision to bring both guys into the booth to provide perspective from a batter and pitcher.
