The Philadelphia Daily News' Ryan Lawrence reports Phillies Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt will be joining the team's broadcast crew for the 2014 season. Schmidt will be the third man in the booth for all 13 home Sunday games this season. He will be joined by Tom McCarthy and one of either Jamie Moyer or Matt Stairs, who were hired earlier this month.
Schmidt, 64, is absent from spring training due to an undisclosed illness marking this spring training as the first one since 2001 that Schmidt has not been an instructor. He spent his entire 18-year career with the Phillies belting 548 home runs and driving in 1,595 RBIs en route to being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995.
