Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are trying to trade closer Jonathan Papelbon but Papelbon has a no-trade clause that gives the Phillies 12 teams in which he would accept a trade. The closer is owed $13 million in 2014 and 2015 with a $16 million vesting option for 2016 which is a major hurdle.
Papelbon, 33, was 5-1 with a 2.92 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and 29 saves in 2013 for the Phillies. Perhaps the most glaring statistic from 2013 for Papelbon was his seven blown after only blowing four in 2012. In two years in Philadelphia, Papelbon is 10-7 with a 2.67 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP to go along with 67 saves.
