The Denver Post's Troy Renck reports that the Colorado Rockies plan to pursue Ruiz once free agency begins.
Ruiz, who turns 35 in January, hit .268/.320/.368 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 92 games last season He served a 25-game suspension at the beginning of the season for testing positive for Adderall. Ruiz had a career year in 2012 batting .325/.394/.540 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs in 114 games. In 12 career games at Coors Field, Ruiz is batting .351/.351/.649 with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Renck states that signing Ruiz would give the Rockies a chance to get slugging catcher Wilin Rosario into the lineup more often (presumably at first base). To say I'm surprised to see the Rockies throwing their name in for Ruiz would be an understatement but crazier things have happened.
