Fox Sports' Sam Amico reports the 76ers "possess strong interest [Cleveland Cavaliers] guard Dion Waiters." Amico adds it would likely be the Sixers jumping in and being the third team in a three-team deal that would land Kevin Love in Cleveland.
We all know Waiters by this point. The 6'4", 225 lbs. shooting guard was taken with the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft, ironically the only time the Cavaliers have not selected No. 1 overall in the last four years, out of Syracuse University. He reportedly got into an altercation with current Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving and has been mentioned in the same breath as the Sixers for months.
Waiters, 22, averaged 15.9 points on 43.3% shooting from the field in 70 games last year for the Cavaliers. He improved his three-point shooting in his sophomore season shooting 36.8% from beyond the arc compared to just 31.0% his rookie season.
Where Waiters seems to struggle is at the free throw line shooting just 68.5% this past season on 3.4 attempts per game. That's not good considering he went just 164-for-346 (47.4%) when finishing at the rim. If he cannot finish at the rim and struggles to convert from the free throw line, it is hard to see him really being Sam Hinkie's guy.
However, I've been wrong in the past.
