Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowksi reports the Sixers are requesting newly-acquired forward Andrei Kirilenko report to the team. Kirilenko wants Philadelphia to buy out the $3.3 million he is owed so he can become a free agent and sign where he pleases.
Kirilenko, 33, has been away from basketball since mid-November due to personal reasons and has not played since November 13th. He was acquired along with a second-round pick from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Brandon Davies last week. Kirilenko carries an $3.326 million salary that expires at the end of the 2014-15 and unloading the salary would save the Nets $12 million in luxury tax expenses.
The 6'9", 220 lbs. forward has only scored three points in seven games this season. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season, his first in Brooklyn. Over his 13-year NBA career, he is averaging 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
