ESPN's Nick Borges reports free agent center Spencer Hawes' status is being tracked by the Sixers, along with the Cavaliers, Rockets and Lakers. The Portland Trail Blazers are the odds on favorite to sign Hawes, given their proximity to his native Seattle, but Hawes is in "no rush" to sign a deal according to the report.
Hawes, 26, had himself a great season last year averaging 13.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. In 53 games for the Sixers, Hawes averaged 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In four seasons with the 76ers, the 7'1" center averaged 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in 253 games.
I guess bringing him back would take some heat off of Nerlens Noel while providing further veteran leadership beyond Thaddeus Young on the roster. That's the best I could come up with as I don't totally see the point of bringing Hawes back. He's a solid player and could certainly help a contender but that's not what the Sixers are at this point so a reunion would be a little confusing.
