HuskersOnline reports Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez failed his physical with the Eagles after the team reviewed his medical file and performed their own x-rays. Martinez only played in four games for the Cornhuskers in 2013 due to a plantar plate tear of the second metatarsal phalangeal joint according to Dr. Mark Quist of Carolina Foot and Ankle.
Martinez, 23, rushed for 1,019 yards on just 195 carries and 10 touchdowns as a quarterback in 14 games in 2012. He ended up rushing for 2,975 yards and 31 touchdowns in just over three seasons as the Nebraska starting quarterback. Martinez caught just one pass in his collegiate career and that came in his rookie season back in 2010.
Had he passed the physical, Martinez would've looked to make the Eagles as a wide receiver or a defensive back. Head coach Chip Kelly loves versatility and Martinez certainly would've provided a lot of it.
