The Patriot-News' David Jones reports Titans head coach Mike Munchak could be the favorite to land the job as Penn State head football coach if current head coach Bill O'Brien bolts for an NFL job. This coming on the heels of a report that stated O'Brien lowered his NFL buyout from $19.33 million to $6.48 million last summer and has had conversations to lower it even more.
Munchak was one of the favorites for the position in 2011 when the university relieved long-time head coach Joe Paterno of his duties. He did not reached out himself about the Penn State position because he is technically still employed by the Tennessee Titans but he is expected to be fired at the end of the season.
The report also lists Vanderbilt's James Franklin and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano as other possible replacements for O'Brien if he heads to the NFL.
