The addition of Nerlens Noel to their front line was certainly a boost but the 76ers could be in the market to add another big man. CBS Sports' Ken Berger is reporting that the Houston Rockets have made center Omer Asik available while they pursue center Dwight Howard. The only landing spot for Asik mentioned by Berger was Philadelphia.
Asik to the Sixers makes sense as general manager Sam Hinkie previously worked for Rockets general manager Daryl Morey in Houston before taking the job with the 76ers.
The 26 year old Turkish center averaged 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game last year in Houston. The seven-footer has two years remaining on his deal with a cap hit of $8.37 million.
I don't have an issue with acquiring Asik and it will be interesting to see if Hinkie sticks with Thaddeus Young, $8.85 million cap hit next year and ballooning over $9 million the following two years, or if he becomes another guy dumped because of his salary. It is not unfathomable.
