One of the most aggressive suitors for Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz is apparently looking elsewhere. Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rockies have "moved on" from Ruiz to focus on bullpen help.
Ruiz, who turns 35 in January, hit .268/.320/.368 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 92 games last season He served a 25-game suspension at the beginning of the season for testing positive for Adderall. Ruiz had a career year in 2012 batting .325/.394/.540 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs in 114 games. In 12 career games at Coors Field, Ruiz is batting .351/.351/.649 with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Signing Ruiz would have given the Rockies a chance to get slugging catcher Wilin Rosario into the lineup more often (presumably at first base). I was surprised that the Rockies originally showed interest in Ruiz but it appears now that they are out.
