Thorn has served as team president of the 76ers since 2010 leading the Sixers to back-to-back playoff appearances, including their run to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2012. He stepped aside this year as team president but remained as President of Basketball Operations.
Now, he will be headed back to the NBA offices as he will become the President of Basketball Operations for the NBA taking over for Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson, who steps down after 13 years with the league.
Sixers owner Joshua Harris released a statement on Rod Thorn,
“Rod proved time and again to be a valuable and respected resource to me, our ownership group and the Philadelphia 76ers, and I would like to thank him for everything he provided to our organization,” Sixers Managing Owner Josh Harris said. "We truly wish him all the best as he leaves us to embark on this new endeavor.”
