The Brewers were leading 5-4 with runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the eighth last night when Ryan Braun stepped to the plate a midst a sea of boos, as he had all night and the previous day too. He was 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts on the night up until that point.
Not for long.
Braun ripped a 1-0 fastball to deep centerfield and over the head of Ben Revere. He cleared the bases to make it a 7-4 game and legged out a triple for good measure. When he got to third, Braun made a rather obnoxious gesture towards his dugout. But was it really just to the dugout? You be the judge.
Whether or not Braun did it is up for debate but let's look at this for a second:
- He's been booed mercilessly every time he has stepped to the plate in the series.
- He hit three home runs the day before but you can't make this gesture without it obviously being towards the fans after a home run (because if you're doing it towards the dugout, you're going to see your teammates in 25 seconds after you round the bases).
- He had gone 0-for-3 with three strikeouts prior to this hit and you know the fans, especially in right field, were having a field day with that.
It all adds up that it might have been towards the dugout but he certainly enjoyed playing the villain in the first two games and that gesture was a fun way of poking the bear.
