ESPN's Marc Stein reports the Sixers have acquired center Hasheem Thabeet and cash considerations from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stein also reports Thabeet will be "waived immediately" after the deal becomes official.
The 7'3", 263 lbs. Thabeet averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game in 23 games last season for the Thunder. The 27-year-old was the second overall pick of the Memphis Grizzlies out of the University of Connecticut in 2009.
Thabeet carries a $1.25 million cap hit so the deal is purely a cap move and the Sixers have plenty of cap space to take on salary. While the cash considerations are certainly the main piece in the deal, you would have to imagine Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie will be receiving a future second round pick in the deal somehow, someway.
