They were wrong. The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that new head coach Brett Brown has elected to dismiss the three remaining assistant coaches from Doug Collins staff: Curry, Aaron McKie, and Jeff Capel. Brown said that he personally broke the news to the three men and reiterated that they were good people but he wanted to build his own staff.
Curry, 44, served as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons during the 2008-2009 season and lead the team to a 39-43 record before being fired after just one season. He had been an assistant coach with the Sixers for three seasons.
I like the idea of cleaning house and starting fresh. It is a shame that it had to happen like this to Curry and even McKie but that's the way it goes. Hopefully they rebound and find jobs elsewhere. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see the route Brown takes in building his coaching staff. My suggestion: find someone with patience. Lots of it.
