The Philadelphia Daily News' Bob Cooney reports that new Sixers forward Royce White is expected to make his debut for the team tonight against the Boston Celtics.
White was acquired by the 76ers this summer as he came from Houston with general manager Sam Hinkie. The 2012 first round pick. has yet to appear in a NBA game due to his anxiety disorder that includes a fear of flying. His anxiety disorder combined with his obsessive-compulsive disorder has made him a total wild card entering the season.
He has made headlines on and off the court this offseason. Anxious Mind's Inc., a group that White started while attending Iowa State, has joined forces with the Houston-based Busy Bee Wellness Center to start the Royce White Institute for Mental Health. The center is slated to be open in January 2014. One week after that announcement, a report came out that White was being investigated for domestic abuse.
White, 22, appeared in 16 games in the NBA Developmental League averaging 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He is a big man who can really move the ball and has the ability to get to the free throw line. It is unclear how the 76ers plan to use him but his contract expires at the end of the year.
