Former first rounder pick Holiday, 22, is entering his fourth year with the Sixers having started 198 of his 220 games played with the team. Collins has said that this year is crucial for Holiday’s development as a point guard so he is an interesting pick as a captain.
Richardson is entering his first season in Philadelphia after coming over from Orlando in a trade that also landed Andrew Bynum in Philadelphia. Richardson and Kwame Brown are the two Sixers with the most experience as they are both entering their 12th season in the NBA. Richardson offers the Sixers a shooting threat that they have lacked over the past few years. Collins has continued to speak highly of his leadership on and off the court since his arrival.
Young, the 12th overall selection in the 2007 NBA draft, is entering his sixth season with Philadelphia. After Andre Iguodala was traded to the Denver Nuggets in August, Young became the Sixers longest tenured player. Young is a respected member of the Sixers as he has handled every game plan with class. Since Collins’ hiring as Sixers head coach two years ago, Young has started two of the 145 games he had played but he has contributed in a major way coming off the bench.
The Sixers open up their season at home on Wednesday against Iguodala and the Denver Nuggets.
