The Sixers announced that they have signed 23 year-old free agent center Daniel Orton and waived center Tim Ohlbrecht.
Orton, 6'10", 255 lbs., was a first-round pick in 2010 with the Orlando Magic. He played primarily with the New Mexico Thunderbirds in the Developmental League. Orton suffered a knee injury in 2010 and finally made his NBA debut in 2012. Following the 2012 season he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder and spent last year mostly in the Developmental League with the Tulsa 66ers where he played well. In 29 games, Orton averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 53.4% from the field.
Ohlbrecht, 25, stands 6'11" and 255 lbs. It is obvious to see why he was a NBDL All-Star and NBDL All-Defensive Second team last year given his size. The German native played professionally in Germany until 2012 when he signed with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBDL. He appeared in three games for the Rockets last year tallying three total points along with one rebound, assist, and steal.
Orton makes him the fourth first-round pick from 2010 to be on the Sixers roster joining Evan Turner, Craig Brackins, and James Anderson.
