It was Pinckney and Griffin yesterday, Fizdale this morning, now Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Sixers have been granted permission and will interview Atlanta Hawks assistant coaches Quin Snyder and Kenny Atkinson. In addition to that news, Y! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the team interviewed Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga yesterday.
Snyder, 46, was the assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers (1992-93) and at Duke (1993-99) before taking over as head coach of the Missouri Tigers from 1999-2006 later becoming a head coach in the NBDL. Snyder was with the Sixers in 2010-11 as a player development coach. He also was an assistant with the Lakers and a head coach in Russia before signing on with Mike Budenholzer and the Hawks on June 10th.
Atkinson, 46, was a stand-out basketball player at the University of Richmond before playing professionally in Europe from 1991-2004. He was the Director of Player Development with the Houston Rockets from 2007-08. Atkinson joined the New York Knicks coaching staff in 2008 and was the only assistant retained when coach Mike D'Antoni resigned in March 2012. He joined the Atlanta Hawks coaching staff last August.
Larranaga, 38, was an assistant on Doc Rivers' Celtics staff last season. His contract was the only one that ran beyond the 2013 season so Rivers could not take Larranaga with him to the Clippers. He is the head coach of the Irish National Team and spent two seasons coaching in the NBDL. He was an assistant coach on former NBA head coach Mike Fratello's staff with the Ukraine National Team. Larranaga is the son of University of Miami head coach Jim Larranaga.
Hopefully this whole thing ends soon.
