CSN Philly's John Finger cites sources that the 76ers have waived forward Royce White, who was acquired from the Houston Rockets this summer. White was positive on Twitter following the news.
The former first-round pick made his preseason debut with the Sixers and admitted that he was "happy to be out there" but also added that he "didn't play well." Well, he should be commended for his honesty. White scored five points and grabbed three rebounds in 10 minutes of play. He shot 2-for-6 from the field including going 0-for-1 from beyond the arc. The issue arose when White picked up four fouls in three minutes in the first quarter.
It is a learning experience and, in the minds of some (myself included), it was a win just to be able to see him on the court playing with NBA talent.
He has made headlines on and off the court this offseason. Anxious Mind's Inc., a group that White started while attending Iowa State, has joined forces with the Houston-based Busy Bee Wellness Center to start the Royce White Institute for Mental Health. The center is slated to be open in January 2014. One week after that announcement, a report came out that White was being investigated for domestic abuse.
White, 22, appeared in 16 games in the NBA Developmental League averaging 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He is a big man who can really move the ball and has the ability to get to the free throw line. He just didn't do enough to stick around with the 76ers.
