The Phillies are the first team to clinch a playoff berth with a 1-0 win yesterday in Houston. Roy Halladay pitched a complete game, six-hit, shutout to lead the Phillies to victory. Another sloppy game defensively for the Phils but Doc bailed them out with his first shutout of the season. Chase Utley returns to the lineup today for the Phillies. More here.

Rockies catcher Eliezer Alonso became the second player in history, behind only Manny Ramirez, to be suspended twice under the league’s performance enhancing drug policy. Alonso will have to serve a 100 game suspension and, with a third positive test, would have a lifetime ban. More here.
The Tigers remain the hottest team in baseball. Heading into yesterday’s game they had won 11 straight. Well you can now make it 12 straight games. After scoring three runs in the ninth and one in the tenth, the Tigers stole a game from the Chicago White Sox. Coupled with the Yankees loss to Seattle, the Tigers have pulled to within 3 ½ games of the Yankees for the best record in the AL. More here.
