The Phillies had a very successful day yesterday. With the rain causing havoc in August the Phillies played a day-night doubleheader yesterday vs. the Marlins to make up the games. The Phillies got five strong innings from Kyle Kendrick and with a little defense from Raul Ibanez the Phillies took game 1. More here.
In the nightcap, Cliff Lee was dealing for nine innings but did not get much run support. Ryan Howard came on as a pinch hitter in the tenth to win the game for the Phillies 2-1. Drama, drama, drama. More here.
The Flyers rookies played their first preseason game last night at the Wells Fargo Center against the Capitals rookies. Flyers rookies notched three goals, including one from newly signed defenseman Blake Kessel. Flyers rookies took down Capitals rookies 3-2.
Last night, The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 9-2 and cut the Sox' wild card lead over them down to only 3. The Red Sox potential collapse is right now being heavily overshadowed by the return of the NFL. This is something to keep track of because so far in September the Sox are only 3-11. Evan Longoria hit a 3-run shot, while B.J. Upton and Casey Kotchman both hit 2-run homers. More here.
San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval hit for the cycle in last night’s 8-5 win over the Colorado Rockies. The simple fact that this man was able to leg out a triple is astonishing. More here.
#3 LSU played #25 Mississippi State last night in what could have been the most boring first half of football ever. The teams were evenly matched for the beginning of the game, but in the second half the LSU defense was stellar, holding Miss St to two field goals. They forced Mississippi State QB Chris Relf from the game after not getting the job done in the second half. LSU held the bulldog offense which rushed for an average of 300+ yards in its first two games to a mere 52 yards. More here.
Yesterday was Terrelle Pryor's suspension hearing in NYC. Although Pryor did not physically attend the meeting. Pryor, though not allowed to practice with the team, really had no excuse for missing the hearing. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus said that Pryor was practicing by himself at the Raiders practice facility. Personally, i think if you want to clean up your image and show that you truly want to be in the NFL, you attend your own suspension hearing. More here.
According to the Portland Business Journal, Nike is reportedly looking to buy Under Amour. The transaction is rumored to be at around $100 dollars a share. This idea, although in the early stages is not out of the question. Nike has already purchased Converse and Umbro. So Maryland may not be making headlines for UA anymore. More here.
