The Phillies took the second game of the three game series with the Pirates last night at Citizens Bank Park 7-4. Hunter Pence made his Phillies debut in right field going 1-5 with an RBI (Should’ve been 2-5 but first base umpire Angel Hernandez took it away from him. I don’t know how he sleeps at night). Phillies look for the sweep this afternoon with Vance Worley going up against Jeff Karstens. First pitch slated for 1:35. More here.
The Phillies sent Drew Carpenter and Domonic Brown down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room for Hunter Pence and Placido Polanco who was activated from the disabled list yesterday. More here.
The Eagles sign Nnamdi Asomugha. The Phillies respond by trading for Hunter Pence. Not to be out done the Eagles go out and sign the best defensive tackle on the free agent market. The Eagles came to terms with former Packers DT Cullen Jenkins on a five year $25 million contract yesterday. Further proof that the Eagles are out to win it and Jeffrey Lurie’s statement that they were going to be aggressive in free agency wasn’t just the front office blowing smoke. More here.
The Rockies have traded Ubaldo Jimenez to the AL and he is headed east. No, not to the Yankees or Red Sox but, rather, to the Cleveland Indians. The Indians are currently 1 ½ games out of first place in the AL Central and are chasing down the Detroit Tigers. The Rockies receive three top prospects and a player to be named later in return. The player to be named later is expected to be left hander Drew Pomeranz. He cannot be traded until one year after the calendar date of his signing. Cleveland is making a run at the AL Central.
