The Flyers played a pivotal game against the New York Islanders last night. They got off to a great start as Claude Giroux hit Jake Voracek on a long pass that sent him in all alone on Evgeni Nabokov and Voracek gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead. They played a great first 15 minutes as they held the Islanders without a scoring chance. The Islanders would get on the board at the end of the first to tie it at 1 after one. The Islanders would take the lead late in the second and not look back. They would get a third goal late in the third as a diving Erik Gustafsson knocked the puck into his own net. The Phillies were looking to get their third win of the year as Cliff Lee was looking to start off 2-0 for the first time since 2008. They got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. The would start the third with back-to-back homeruns by Ryan Howard and Michael Young. After a Dom Brown fly out, John Mayberry Jr. went deep. The Phillies hit three homeruns in a seven pitch span. That would be enough for Lee who went 8.2 allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out six. The Phillies went on to win 8-3 over New York. More here.
The Sixers were in Brooklyn last night taking on the Nets in a game that was either going to help or hurt their draft position. Long story short, it helped. The Nets jumped out to a 31-18 first quarter lead behind 10 points from Reggie Evans and 15 points from Brook Lopez. The Nets never looked back outscoring the Sixers in all quarters except for the fourth in which the 76ers outscored Brooklyn 21-19. Evans finished with 17 points and 24 rebounds while Lopez added 29 points and 11 rebounds in the Nets 104-83 victory. More here.
