The Flyers wrapped up their regular season yesterday at the Wells Fargo Center against the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina jumped out to a 3-1 lead through the first period and made it 4-1 just 17 seconds into the second period. The Flyers fought back behind goals from Kimmo Timonen, Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier. When Carolina scored to make it 5-4 late in the third, Simmond netted his 29th of the year with 9.5 seconds left to force overtime. The Flyers would go on to lose in a shootout. More here.
The Phillies were looking for their first sweep of the season after being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers last week. Chase Utley put the team on his back again going 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning that broke a 3-3 tie. Wil Nieves went 3-for-4 with a two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning to tie the game at three. The Phillies swept the Marlins behind a 4-3 victory. More here.
