The Phillies wrapped up a four game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday during the team's first business person special of the season. Cliff Lee took the mound and went seven innings allowing three runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts. The Phillies had a 3-1 lead after six innings and watched it all fall apart. The Pirates scored one run in the sixth inning, two runs in the seventh inning, and three runs in the eighth inning. That was enough to doom the Phillies thanks to their bullpen as they have lost three straight games. More here.
The Flyers wrapped up their home schedule last night as they hosted the playoff-bound New York Islanders. They got a first period goal from Danny Briere off a beautiful feed from Brayden Schenn who showed great patience before feeding the pass for the first goal of the game. The Islanders would tie up the game on a dirty goal in the second period before the two teams headed to the third period. With six and a half minutes remaining in the period, rookie defenseman Oliver Lauridsen, who got his first NHL goal when Zdeno Chara sent a puck into his own goal on Tuesday, blasted a shot past Islanders goaltender Kevin Poulin. The Flyers would go on to win 2-1 and pulled their record to 22-22-3. More here.
