The Phillies were looking to avoid a sweep yesterday against the Nationals but had tall task at hand. Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg was on the mound yesterday and was dealing. Strasburg allowed just four hits and one walk over nine scoreless innings as he earned his first career complete game. Jayson Werth and three other Nationals knocked in runs as they cruised to a 6-0 lead to drop the Phillies to 13 games under .500 and 19.5 games out of first place. More here.
The final round of the PGA Championship saw local product Jim Furyk with a one shot lead through 54 holes for the second time in the last two seasons. Furyk had Jason Dufner chasing him down as Dufner shot a final round two-under 68 and watched as Furyk had a string of pars as he shot a one-over 71 to finish two shots back of Dufner. The Braves were taking on the Marlins looking to keep their 14.5 game lead in the NL East as they took on the Miami Marlins. Braves 1B Freddie Freeman launched a three-run home run in the fifth inning to put them up 4-3 then would use a four-run seventh inning to win 9-4 and maintain their division lead. More here.
