The Phillies were on the West Coast last night taking on the Los Angeles Angels. The Phillies took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when the wheels fell off. Kole Calhoun got the Angels started in the sixth inning with his solo home run to get Los Angeles on the board. He capped off the sixth inning with an RBI single to make it 7-2 Angels which would be the final. More here.
Former-St. Joe's Hawk Ronald Roberts stood out for the Sixers during their Orlando Summer League and it appears it was enough to earn him a job. European basketball outlet Sportando reports Roberts has agreed to a three-year deal with the Sixers. The Intelligencer's Tom Moore reports part of the first year of the deal could be guaranteed. Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon not surprisingly cleared waivers last week meaning he can be traded to any team if general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. can find a deal. Unfortunately for Amaro, his demands seem to be a bit off-putting for other team executives. The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo quotes one American League official as saying, "Phillies are just unreasonable in their demands. When they get a bit more realistic, I think Papelbon will move, but that may not happen until the end of the month." More here.
