The Phillies were in the process to giving away another quality start from Cliff Lee. Lee allowed two runs on nine hits over seven innings of work. The gave up a run in the top of the eighth to fall behind 3-2. Erik Kratz led off the ninth with a double down the line. Two batters later, Carlos Ruiz drove him home to tie the game. Two batters later, Michael Young drove home Ruiz home to win it 4-3 for the Phillies. More here.
Former Sixers guard Allen Iverson is set to retire. He won the 1997 Rookie of the Year award and 2001 Most Valuable Player award. In his 14 year NBA career, Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. His greatest feat might have been leading the 2001 Sixers to the NBA Finals where they fell to Shaq, Kobe, and the Lakers in five games. More here.
The Phillies added another body to their outfield mix. They signed speedy outfielder Roger Bernadina after he cleared waivers. He was released by the Nationals earlier this week after they acquired OF David DeJesus. To make room for Bernadina on the 25 man roster, the Phillies optioned Michael Martinez back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. More here.
