Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said yesterday that he is “close to 100 percent” after suffering bruised ribs in a preseason game against the New England Patriots. The $100 million man plans to wear thicker Kevlar rib protection. He missed at least 3 games in each of the last two seasons with rib injuries. More here.
Former Eagles quarterback, and the man who also coined the dreaded words “dream team” last season, Vince Young has been cut by the Buffalo Bills. The Bills traded for former Vikings and Seahawks starter Tavaris Jackson to back up incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Young signed a one-year deal with Buffalo in May. More here.
For those with Wild Card dreams for the Phillies, here are some results from last night to take note of:
The St. Louis Cardinals took down the Pittsburgh pirates 4-3 last night to drop the Pirates to 3 games out of the second Wild Card spot. The Cardinals win, coupled with the off day for the Phillies, drops the Phillies 10 games back with 34 games to play. More here.
The Braves were blanked 3-0 by the Padres last night as San Diego sent rookie Casey Kelly out for his first Major League start. This is good news for the Phillies. The rookie did not disappoint as he went six innings allowing no runs on just three hits. More here.
The Cincinnati Reds were lead by a solid start and a solo home run from starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo as they topped the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2. This is also good news for the Phillies as the D’backs are one of four teams separating the Phillies from the second Wild Card spot (the other teams are the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Pirates).
