The Phillies were looking to avoid a sweep last night against the Atlanta Braves with Cliff Lee on the mound on Sunday Night Baseball. The national spotlight did not help as Lee went five innings allowing four runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts but got little run support. Two runs in the first inning and two in the fifth was all the Braves needed as they cruised to a 4-1 victory, their 10th straight. More here.
The NCAA is probing another student-athlete. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is under investigation about whether he was paid for signing autographs back around the National Championship Game. If he did profit from selling his signature, he could be deemed ineligible for the 2013 season and be forced the sit out the year. More here.
Major League Baseball is expecting to hand down suspensions to 12-13 players today stemming from the Biogenesis investigation. The player at the forefront of the case, Alex Rodriguez, is expected to be suspended today but the Yankees expect him to be able to appeal and be in the lineup tonight. More here.
