The Phillies were looking to win their first series of the second half yesterday with an afternoon game against the Cubs. Ethan Martin got his second start of his career allowing one run on four hits in five innings to get his first win. Cody Asche hit his first career home run and drove in two runs. Darin Ruf, Dom Brown, and John McDonald all drove in two runs as well. The Phillies cruised to a 12-1 victory. More here.
Max Scherzer has been dealing all season long and yesterday was no different. He allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings to move his record to 17-1. He is the first pitcher to win 17 of his first 18 decisions since Roger Clemens did so in 2001. The Tigers would go on to beat the Indians 10-3 for their 12th straight win. More here.
