The Eagles have done it! They have won another game! Despite holding a 10-0 lead at halftime the Eagles gave it back in epic fashion allowing the Buccaneers to score 21 unanswered points to take a 21-10 lead with 7:21 remaining in the fourth quarter. Nick Foles led the Eagles down for a touchdown with 3:55 remaining to cut it to 21-16. Foles got the ball back with 2:44 remaining and led the Eagles down the field to the one yard line with two seconds left. Foles called a roll out play to throw to Jeremy Maclin to win the game 23-21. Foles threw for 381 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He was the third rookie quarterback in history to throw for 350+ yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. More here.
The Kansas City Royals are making contender-like moves this offseason. After resigning Jeremy Guthrie and trading for Ervin Santana, the Royals made their biggest splash of the offseason last night. They acquired righthanders James Shields and Wade Davis along with a player to be named later and cash from the Tampa Bay Rays for top prospects OF Wil Meyers and RHP Jake Odorizzi and two more prospects. The Giants entered yesterday’s late afternoon under pressure. Both the Redskins and the Cowboys won earlier in the day putting them a half game behind the Giants and would pull the Giants out of first place in the NFC East with a New York loss. Facing the Saints, the Giants sent a message that they will not be a pushover over the remaining three games. Eli Manning threw for 259 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). Add in a kickoff return for a touchdown and the Giants were off and running in route to a 52-27 victory over New Orleans to move to 8-5 on the year. More here.
The Redskins had a tough task as the Baltimore Ravens entered Landover looking to take control of the AFC North. Trailing 28-20 with less than five minutes remaining, Robert Griffin III drove his team down the field but took a hard hit and was forced to leave. Rookie backup QB Kirk Cousins came in and led the Redskins the rest of the way for the touchdown and game tying two point conversion. They would win it in overtime 31-28. RG3 threw for 246 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 34 yards as the Redskins move to 7-6 on the year. More here.
The Cowboys entered yesterday with heavy hearts after the death of practice squad member Jerry Brown and the arrest of teammate Josh Brent for intoxication manslaughter. Entering the fourth quarter, the Cowboys trailed the Eagles next opponent, the Cincinnati Bengals, 19-10. Behind Tony Romo’s 268 passing yards and clutch touchdown to Dez Bryant, Dallas went on to win 20-19. The win moves the Cowboys to 7-6 and one game behind the Giants. More here.
