The NHL lockout does not have an end in sight. After the promising talks two weeks ago fell through, both sides have been stubborn in their refusal to negotiate with each other. That led to yesterday when the league cancelled all games through January 14th. The Flyers have now had 41 of their 82 games cancelled and the league as a whole has cancelled 50.8% of their games. The next slate of cancellations will most likely be the official cancellation of the entire season. More here.
The nation’s No. 2 senior is a 6’8” forward out of Simeon Careery Academy in Chicago, Illinois. Simeon is known for producing players such as Derrick Rose and Ben Wilson, the subject of ESPN 30 for 30’s Benji. Jabari Parker is the next big thing to come from Simeon and he committed to Duke University yesterday. He joins fellow Chicago native coach Mike Krzyzewski in North Carolina. More here.
The Minnesota Timberwolves had a tough matchup last night as they faced the white hot Oklahoma City Thunder who had won their previous 12 games. Behind Kevin Love’s 28 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists the T’wolves were able to squeak out a 99-93 victory to snap the Thunder’s win streak. J.J. Barea, who had been rumored to be on the 76ers radar, had 18 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. More here.
