The Eagles have fired defensive line coach Jim Washburn. After installing the Wide 9 formation, Washburn has fallen out of favor in a major way this season. Last week the Eagles released “Washburn guy” Jason Babin and Washburn was unhappy. Reportedly Washburn was openly criticizing the decision and that did not sit well with the organization. More here.
The Eagles have lost eight straight games. Let that sink in. Last night the Eagles jumped out to a 14-3 lead on two Bryce Brown touchdown runs. They had a 17-10 lead at halftime but it went all downhill in the second half including a fumble recovery for a touchdown by the Cowboys with 3:50 remaining to put them up 38-27. Demaris Johnson returned a punt for a touchdown with 31 seconds left but it was not enough as the Eagles lost 38-33. Runningback Bryce Brown has 169 yards and two touchdowns for the second straight week. The loss drops the Eagles to 3-9. Right now, they are slated to select fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. The BCS Bowls were announced. As expected, Notre Dame and Alabama will square off in the BCS National Championship game in Miami, Fl. Northern Illinois shocked a lot of people by going 12-1 and getting a bid to the Orange Bowl which knocked out Oklahoma. BCS Bowls here.
Former Phillies closer Brad Lidge announced his retirement yesterday. Lidge will be held close to the hearts of Philadelphia fans when he went 48-for-48 in 2008 and struck out Eric Hinske to end the 2008 World Series. He was a member of the Phillies from 2008-2011 before pitching in 11 games for the Nationals in 2012. More here.
