It did not take the Flyers long to get on the board last night when Wayne Simmonds put home a rebound to give them a 1-0 lead. Nearly 15 minutes later Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf beat Ilya Bryzglov to tie the game. The second period got off to a horrific start when Colton Orr beat Bryzgalov to give the Leafs a 2-1 lead just 2:05 into the period. Then 28 seconds later Matt Frattin found the back of the net to put the Flyers in an early 3-1 hole. Less than four minutes later, Clarke MacArthur would knock Bryzgalov out of the game when he netted the Leafs third goal of the period putting them up 4-1. In the third period Toronto got a goal quickly when James van Riemsdyk beat Boucher to put the Maple Leafs up 5-1. The Flyers could not get much going until McGinn scored with 32 seconds left for a 5-2 final. More here.
The Clippers were coming off of a 102-88 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon when they came to Philadelphia last night. They picked up right where they left off on Sunday as they jumped out to a quick start outscoring the Sixers 30-22. A staggering 20 of the Clippers 30 first quarter points came from the paint. In the second quarter Los Angeles used stellar defense to essentially put the nail in the coffin early. They outscored Philadelphia 26-11 to take a 23 point halftime lead to the lockerroom. The third quarter was a lot like the first as the Clippers outscored the Sixers 32-26 and, once again, 20 of the Clippers 32 points came from the pain. The Sixers trailed by as many as 32 points in the fourth quarter. They would eventually outscore the Clippers 31-19 in the final frame to get the final score to a somewhat respectable 107-90. Michael Vick will be back next year. In a somewhat surprising move, the Eagles announced yesterday that the team and Vick agreed to restructure his contract and it will keep him in Philadelphia next season. It is essentially a one year deal as the contract’s final two years will be voided come March 15th. Vick can earn as much as $10 million according to reports. The timing was interesting as the news broke just two hours before Kelly’s press conference to announce his coaching staff. More here.
