The Miami Heat took down the Oklahoma City Thunder last night 110-100 in a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals. Kevin Durant pulled his weight for OKC as he dropped 40 points and grabbed eight rebounds. LeBron James had his NBA record streak of 30 points and shooting better than 60% from the field in six straight games snapped last night. James scored 39 points and grabbed 12 rebounds but was 14-for-24 (58%) from the field. The Heat did something that’s nearly impossible – beat the Thunder at home. Oklahoma City was 23-3 at home entering last night’s contest. More here.
The Ottawa Senators, who made their return to the playoffs last season, were dealt a major blow. Erik Karlsson had 70 percent of his left Achilles tendon cut on Wednesday night as the Penguins’ Matt Cooke went to hit Karlsson and his skate came down on the back of Karlsson’s leg. He underwent surgery yesterday to repair the tendon. The 22 year old defenseman had six goals and four assists in 14 games this season. More here.
The Los Angeles Lakers no longer rule Los Angeles. This is probably not a surprise as they currently sit at 25-29 while the other Staples Center tenants, the Clippers, are 39-17 and feature highlight reel stars Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan. The Clippers and Lakers faced off last night in a home game for the Lakers. The Clippers haven’t won a season series against the Lakers since 1992-93. With their 125-101 rout last night, the Clipper won the season series and will look for their first season sweep of Los Angeles since 1975. More here.
