VILLANOVA LATEST #1 TO FALL AS THEY LOSE TO #5 XAVIER; ST. JOE'S BOUNCES BACK; LA SALLE LOSES
- Expect the Wildcats to fall out of the top spot in the country after they lost to #5 Xavier on the road 90-83 last night. Kris Jenkins had a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats, while Josh Hart had 13. Freshman Jalen Brunson contributed with 12, and Phil Booth had 11 coming off the bench. For the Musketeers, Edmond Sumner and J.P. Macura each had a team-high 19 points, while Sumner had nine assists to his point total, and Myles (with a "Y") Davis had 16 points. Jalen Reynolds had 11, and Trevon Bluiett and James Farr each had 10 points. Nova is back in action on Saturday as they take on Marquette on the road. (RECAP)
- Elsewhere, St. Joe's got back on track after suffering their first road loss of the season against Davidson on Saturday. Led by Isaiah Miles's 20 points and nine rebounds, the Hawks defeated UMass on the road 74-57. DeAndre' Bembry had 18 points and nine boards on the night, while Aaron Brown had 14 points, and Lamarr Kimble had 10. Donte Clark had a team-high 20 points for the Minutemen and Jabarie Hinds was right behind with 19 points. The Hawks get to host Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at Hagan Arena. (RECAP)
- And we have to mention La Salle as well, even though they lost again. This time, it was to Fordham 56-53 after the Explorers gave up a five-point lead at halftime (heard that before?). Jordan Price and Cleon Roberts tied for a team-high of 13 points, while LSCHS graduate Amar Stukes had nine. For the Rams, Chris Sengfelder had a game-high 16 points, while David Pekarek had 12, and Joseph Chartouny had 11. La Salle returns home for two of their final three regular games on Saturday as they take on George Mason. (RECAP)
